Cory Booker Delivers Marathon Senate Speech Against Trump and Elon Musk

In an extraordinary overnight protest, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) launched a marathon speech on the Senate floor, sharply criticizing President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Beginning at 7 p.m. EST on Monday, Booker continued speaking for more than 13 hours, vowing to voice his concerns as long as he was “physically able.”

Booker: Trump Has ‘Inflicted So Much Harm’

Throughout the night, Booker condemned Trump’s 71 days in office, claiming the president has already caused “immense harm” to Americans’ safety, financial stability, and democratic institutions.

“He has inflicted so much harm on Americans’ safety, financial stability, the core foundations of our democracy, and even our aspirations as a people for, from our highest offices, a sense of common decency.” — Booker

Booker accused the Trump administration and congressional Republicans of attempting to slash funding for Medicare and Medicaid to provide tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. However, Trump has repeatedly stated that he does not plan to reduce these benefits but rather aims to eliminate fraud within the programs.

Musk in the Crosshairs

Booker also took aim at Elon Musk, though he did not provide specific details on why the billionaire CEO was included in his critique. Musk, known for his influence in politics and technology, has frequently clashed with Democratic lawmakers over labor issues, social media policies, and government regulations.

Democratic Allies Offer Support

Several Senate Democrats joined Booker in solidarity, providing brief intermissions in his speech. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) stood out as a key supporter, announcing he would stay by Booker’s side for the entirety of his address.

Murphy also posted a social media video, calling Booker’s speech “extraordinary” and a critical stand against the Trump administration.
